Turn campaign links into readable traffic sources

Start with the source, medium and campaign name, then add a keyword or creative label if needed. The values below are examples; replace them with your own campaign names.

How to fill in the five UTM parameters
ParameterPurposeExample value
utm_sourceThe platform or channel sending the trafficnewsletter
utm_mediumThe type of marketing mediumemail
utm_campaignUse one consistent name for the campaignautumn_launch
utm_termOptional: the paid search keywordonline_tools
utm_contentOptional: distinguish creatives or links within a campaignheader_button

An example that keeps existing parameters and the page anchor

Enter this destination URL, set source to newsletter, medium to email and campaign to autumn launch, and leave term and content blank.

https://example.com/launch?ref=partner#pricing

The result keeps ref and #pricing, and encodes the space in the campaign name as +. The five UTM fields replace existing parameters with the same names; leaving a field blank removes that parameter.

What else do you need after building the link?

Building a link does not install analytics or automatically produce traffic reports. The destination site needs Google Analytics or another UTM-compatible analytics tool configured correctly. Before publishing, open the link to check the landing page and confirm that redirects preserve the parameters.

Parameter values are case-sensitive. Agree on lowercase names and a consistent naming scheme with your team. Do not put email addresses, names, secrets or other personal information in parameters.

This tool edits five basic UTM parameters. It does not have separate fields for utm_id or utm_source_platform; those and other parameters already in the destination URL are preserved.
