Generate a rename plan, then apply it yourself

Generate an old-to-new filename mapping without modifying computer files. Inspect prefixes, numbering and extensions, then export the plan for your own script or file manager.

An example to check

Input and settings

Enter photo.jpg and cover.jpg, then set an archive prefix and starting number.

Expected result

Two mappings from original to planned names; disk files keep their original names.

Inspect order, zero-padding and extensions in the preview. Back up files and check for existing target names before applying the plan.

Scope and limitations

  • Windows, macOS and Linux differ in reserved characters, case sensitivity and path lengths. Check the destination system rules.
  • An exported mapping is not an execution script. The program applying it should handle missing source files, collisions and rollback.
